All the food at Hotel Noir follows three simple rules – it’s got to be good quality, local where possible, and cooked just for you – not to sit on a buffet.
Wake up to breakfast
Whether you want fruit and yoghurt, cheese and pastries or a proper fry-up the buffet has something for everyone whilst chef prepares your choice from our continental and full English breakfast menu.
On busy days it may take a little longer to get served but we believe passionately that you’ll be able to tell the difference from the quicker alternative of a buffet with rubbery eggs and half-cooked bacon of dubious origin.
Breakfast is served between 7.00am and 9.30am on weekdays and 8.00am to 10.30am at weekends for that extra luxury of a lie-in.

Winter has arrived in so we are settling into our Winter Menu – slow-cooked steak and ale pie, chicken wrapped in pancetta filled with melting cheese, roasted salmon, our huge Monster mixed grills, a luscious mushroom, walnut and feta cheese tart or a fantastic local steak with hand-cut chips alongside classic East Coast fish and chips and a range of other popular dishes. For the BBQ lovers, you can try our extended burger menu.
We also have a great value Early Bird menu which changes daily. At £11.95 for 2 courses, and served from 5pm to 7pm, it’s ideal for those needing to get to the Theatre, Ghost Walk or simply ready to curl up on the bed with the soaps on the TV after a hard day’s sightseeing.
Whether you’re looking to relax away from the bustle of the City or heading out to York’s bars & pubs this menu gives great value but doesn’t compromise on hand-made quality or portion sizes. Our kids’ menu is fantastic value at just £3.50 for a main course and we guarantee that the food is the same quality as the rest of the menu, with homemade spaghetti bolognese (with hidden vegetables!), chicken breast or haddock goujons or cheesy pasta with crunchy bacon bits.
We welcome the local residents of Clifton and York, whether you fancy a bacon buttie or dinner without the dishes.
Chef will do her best to accommodate any special requirements but please give us at least 24 hours notice for any food intolerances.
Drink Noir
Hotel Noir’s informal bar is the perfect area for a few minutes of peace in the morning, sipping a coffee and enjoying the view over leafy Clifton Green or meeting friends for a glass of wine or a cool beer before dinner and because the bar is open until late you can savour that last nightcap on your way back from York’s nightspots. We have spent a huge amount of time selecting our bespoke wine list by tasting each wine, sometimes time after time – a difficult task you can imagine. The result is we have an unusually sophisticated selection from around the world. A glass of our house wine will not disappoint but if you are looking for something to impress we guarantee you will find it in here.
We get our food and drink from only the most trustworthy and honest sources. We find that when more love goes into preparing the ingredients, a richer flavour comes out.
