Medieval city walls

The Shambles

Clifford’s Tower

Clifford’s Tower is the principal remains of 13th century York Castle, perched on a mound overlooking River Ouse. Spiral staircases lead visitors to incredible views over York.

York Castle Museum

A hugely popular tourist attraction, York Castle Museum is a tribute to daily life in England through the ages. Based within 18th century prison buildings, the museum houses a complete recreated Victorian street.

National Railway Museum

The world’s largest railway museum is dedicated to preserving historically significant railway vehicles and memorabilia, including a huge collection of locomotives, rolling stock and railway equipment.  This amazing collection is also free, making it hugely popular.  Thomas the Tank is a regular visitor so visit the website to check if he’s in town!

Jorvik Viking Centre

Castle Howard
